Team India will play three ODIs against England and Aakash Chopra questioned the selection.
Before the first One Day International between India and England, Indian skipper Virat Kohli has already confirmed the openers for the series. However, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra wants both their key spinners – Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal in the team.
However, he again shared that if Kuldeep doesn’t get a game, then there’s no point in having him on the team as well.
“You can try what you want in fast bowling but in the spin department, you should please play both Kuldeep and Chahal because if you don’t play them here also, then what will Kuldeep do. You don’t play him in the Tests or T20s, if you don’t play him in the ODIs also then what’s the point,” said Aakash Chopra.
Meanwhile, the veteran Aakash Chopra also questioned the exclusion of the pace bowlers Navdeep Saini, Deepak Chahar and the spinner Axar Patel from the team.
“If you don’t play him in the ODIs also then what’s the point.” – Aakash Chopra
“The question that comes to my mind is that if Navdeep Saini was in the T20I team, then why not the ODI team. He didn’t play a single match, Deepak Chahar is another name. Axar Patel is in the Test and T20I teams but not in the ODIs, why so?,” asked the former India player.
He again shared that the left-handed India opener Shikhar Dhawan should open for India in all the three games as well. “Shikhar Dhawan should definitely open in all three matches in my opinion because he plays only one format now, so you should give him the chance to open,” concluded Aakash Chopra.
On the other hand, Team India used different opening pairs in every game of the recently-concluded five-match T20I series. While in the first four games they didn’t get the result they wanted, the fifth and final one made wonders as the captain Virat Kohli opened alongside Rohit Sharma and the new opening pair made the winning foundation for the host as well.
They stitched a 94-run stand from 8.5 overs before Rohit got out to Ben Stokes in the 9th over after hammering 64 runs off 34 balls. Later, Suryakumar Yadav continued his onslaught with Kohli anchoring the innings from the other end.
After Yadav’s got out for 32 (17 balls), Hardik Pandya came up the order and he also smashed 39 off 17 balls as India put up a massive total of 224/2 from their allotted 20 overs and Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 80 as well.
The three-match ODI series will be played in Pune from March 23 as well.
