Deep Dasgupta comments on the new stint of Glenn Maxwell with RCB

Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta opened up on the new IPL franchise of Glenn Maxwell.

He recently said that Glenn Maxwell might find the much-anticipated success in the Indian Premier League in the 14th season while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

While speaking to Sports Today ahead of IPL 2021, Deep Dasgupta said that he finds similarities between RCB and Glenn Maxwell’s playing style and he further added that Virat Kohli’s team might be the perfect fit for the Australian all-rounder.

However, Glenn Maxwell had a poor IPL 2020 season where he could only manage 108 runs in 13 matches at an average of less than 16. Maxwell also struggled to fit into the batting order of Punjab Kings too. But he did quite well during India’s limited-overs series in Australia and in the Big Bash League.

“I just have a feeling that this franchise might suit his personality and the way he plays his cricket” – Deep Dasgupta on Glenn Maxwell

There, he scored 379 runs in 13 matches, scoring at a strike rate of over 140. However, RCB bought him with a whopping price of Rs 14.25 crore. And, he didn’t break the trust of the franchise. In the first game for RCB, he came to bat at No 4 and smashed all over the park, scoring a blistering 39 off 28 with 3 fours and 2 sixes for a winning cause against Mumbai Indians.

“One of the biggest additions, for me, I would be really, really interested to see Glenn Maxwell at RCB. Does this franchise suit him? He has been around in the IPL but will this franchise suit him?” Dasgupta told Sports Today.

“I just have a feeling that this franchise might suit his personality and the way he plays his cricket. There is a lot of similarity in terms of the franchise, which is RCB and Glenn Maxwell. So I think this could be a year where Glenn Maxwell can prove he is as good a player in the IPL as he is any other tournament in the world,” he further added.

With Maxwell in the middle order alongside AB de Villiers, Royal Challengers Bangalore can be so dangerous in the middle overs and take on any opposition as well. And it will be interesting to see how Maxwell cash in this chance as well.
