After winning the England vs West Indies First Test at Southampton, the Windies captain Jason Holder reaches second place in the ICC Test Player Rankings. Jason attained the highest rating points by any West Indies bowler in 20 years.
Jason Holder picked seven wickets which included a haul of six for 42 in the first innings has now attained a career-best 862 rating points which is better than any West Indies bowler since Courtney Walsh’s tally in 2000.
Indian players have not played in the field due to the pandemic scenario since March and have retained their positions in the top-10 of batsmen and bowlers rankings. Skipper Virat Kohli is still in the second position behind Steve Smith of Australia. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane remain seventh and ninth respectively. The only bowler from India that holds the top-10 bowler list is Jasprit Bumrah who holds the seventh position.
In the list of batting, Jason Holder retained 35th position after the first Test and reached his career-best tally of 485 points at the all-rounders’ list.
The top list and its competition have gained momentum after a pause with the number-two Ben Stokes attaining 431 points, narrowing the lead from 66 to 54 points.
Changes in the ICC Rankings
The stand-in captain of the England team for the Eng vs WI First Test, Stokes has reached his career-high ninth position in the top batsmen list that he achieved last November. Ben has scored 43 and 46 at the first Test in Ageas Bowl against the Windies.
Stokes is just one position down from Joe Root and as risen three places in the bowler’s list to 23rd position by taking six wickets in the match.
Other players who have moved up the rankings include left-handed opener Rory Burns, who is in the top 30 for the first time after scores of 30 and 42, while middle-order batsman Zak Crawley is in the top 100 after accumulating 86 runs in the match from the English team.
Shannon Gabriel from the West Indies has gained 46 points and reached a tally of 726. He has also won a player-of-the-match owing to the nine wickets but rose only one place to 18th as he and Ravindra Jadeja (722) has a huge gap of points.
Jermaine Blackwood’s brilliant performance in the second-innings has helped him advance 14 slots to the 58th position among batsmen and at the same time, Shane Dowrich is at the 37th position after scoring 61 and 20.
Jason Holder reaches second place in the ICC rankings is definitely going to encourage the captain’s performance in the second Test which is bound to start tomorrow.
