England are all set to take on India on Thursday, March 4 in the fourth and final Test at Motera where the pitch is likely to be similar. However, before that, England captain Joe Root said that the wicket will be similar and asked his batsmen to be brave.
“Pitch looks similar from previous Test, important we learn from previous mistakes,” he said in the virtual press conference.
“It is important we harness that, have it in the front of our mind and be a bit braver actually; play with a little bit more freedom. That doesn’t mean going out there and trying to slog it, or be ultra-aggressive, we need to play our game a certain way but it is about not being scared of the conditions,” Joe Root further added.
However, he shared that he doesn’t like to see his team comes out nervous or scared while playing in this type of pitch. And, it is not unknown that England have quality players in their kitty. Root also believed that if the players started doubting themselves then their game will be affected as well.
“It’s having that confidence to play the ball in front of you, not having the baggage from the previous delivery, not over-thinking the pitch, trying to see things for what they are. And if you get an opportunity to score, you absolutely have to commit to it. That kind of mentality and attitude is really important on surfaces that are extreme and are spinning quite heavily. You need to be able to put pressure back on the bowlers,” concluded Joe Root.
Meanwhile, Team India’s young spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been going through a rough patch for the last couple of years. Due to that, he didn’t even play in Tests for India for over two years before getting the chance in the second Test match against England in Chennai. Kuldeep picked up 2/25 in the game as well.
However, he once again left out when the series shifted to Ahmedabad for the pink ball Test and Washington Sundar replaced him. Meanwhile, after India’s loss in the first Test, Kohli had cleared the air about Kuldeep Yadav, saying how there were no regrets about not playing him. Now, prior to the fourth and final Test, which will begin Thursday, Virat Kohli was once again asked the reason of Kuldeep’s omission from the D/N Test.
