Rajasthan Royals’ experienced pace bowler Jofra Archer will miss the entire Indian Premier League 2021.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed the news on Friday (April 23) that Jofra Archer wouldn’t take part in the ongoing cash-rich league. Archer underwent surgery on his middle finger recently and returned to “bowling this week with higher intensity, and the ECB and Sussex medical teams will continue to monitor his progress,” the ECB again shared in a statement.
“Archer will now step up his training regime starting next week and will be in full training with Sussex. It is expected that he will return to cricket in the next fortnight if he can continue to bowl and prepare pain-free,” the release further added.
Jofra Archer will play mid-May for Sussex soon
However, this is certainly a huge blow to Rajasthan Royals as Jofra Archer was their key player and he had a stellar season last year in the UAE. In 2020, he had picked up 20 wickets in 14 games, with an economy of 6.55 and having had scored 113 runs as well.
If Jofra Archer was to play in the IPL, he would’ve had to serve a mandatory quarantine period of eight days that would interrupt his preparation and bowling build-up as well, which is certainly not ideal in his return to the league too. And for this, both the Royals and Archer took the call mutually.
However, the ECB will confirm the return of Jofra Archer to playing in due course. Meanwhile, if everything goes according to the plan, he will play mid-May for Sussex in the Championship as well.
