Pollard smashed 2 fours, 1 six and a two in the 20th over off Lungi Ngidi to take the game away from Chennai. Earlier, Pollard was dropped on 66 by Faf du Plessis in the 18th over. And the West Indian made Chennai pay dearly for the lapse. The win also snapped Chennai’s 5-match winning run.
Coming in to bat at 81/3 in the 10th over, Pollard went berserk from the word go. He reached his fifty off 17 balls – the fastest in IPL 2021 and was ably supported by The Pandya Brothers in overhauling the target. The win helped Mumbai stay at 4th spot with 8 points in 7 matches.
Earlier, asked to bat first, Chennai was helped by a fifty each from Faf du Plessis (50 off 28 balls), Moeen Ali (58 off 36 balls), and Ambati Rayudu (27-ball 72 not out) to reach a score of 218/4. Rayudu was especially severe on his former Mumbai Indians’ teammates. He smashed 7 sixes and 4 fours during his knock. CSK remained at the top, with 10 points from 7 matches.
