The world’s fastest bowler Shoaib Akhtar feels in the last ten years ICC has successfully finished the level of cricket. With so much T20 cricket all over the world the real contest between bat and ball is somehow missing nowadays. During an interview with ex Indian cricketer cum commentator Sanjay Manjarekar, Akhtar expressed his disappointment at some of the playing conditions in limited over cricket, which has made the cricket only for batsmen.
“Can I tell you something bluntly? They (ICC) are finishing the cricket. I am openly saying that in the last 10 years, ICC has successfully finished cricket, and I would say job well done guys. Jo Socha thaa Apne Woh Kiya,” Akhtar said in his consummate style.
Akhtar Questions ICC!
Akhtar also feels that ICC should increase the number of bouncers per over to bring some balance between bat and ball. In the present rule, bowlers have to use two new balls from each side and four fielders can stay outside the circle after power-play. Thus with only one bouncer per over it is very difficult for the bowlers to stop the run flow.“I have been saying repeatedly that change bouncer rule(one per over). You have two new balls and four fielders outside. Please ask ICC whether, in the last ten years, quality of cricket has gone up or gone down” Akhtar said during the interview.
Sachin Akhtar Rivalry!
The “ Rawalpindi Express” also mentioned the level of domination and power of little master Sachin Tendulkar during his peak time and said that he has a lot of respect for the world’s greatest batsman and he always wanted to give strong competition to him. Akhtar said “ Still there is no rivalry like Sachin vs Shoaib, you won’t get following” He also added that batsmen like Virat Kohli would have found it difficult to plays against him at his peak, due to his express pace.
Akhtar thinks it would have been a great treat for eyes if Virat had played against Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Shane Warne in their prime. He added “he could have judged himself where he stood in front of these bowlers”
The speed merchant is very much unhappy with the current set of fast bowlers in Pakistan.“What you need in the team today are characters, players who can hunt you down, who can run like a lion and think like a Leopard. You have to bring people like me in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). I will find such people, train them in all aspects like how to eat, how to talk, how to bowl, mannerisms, and build them up as a brand” he added.
