Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta backed an out-of-form Kuldeep Yadav.
Young India spinner Kuldeep Yadav has currently been struggling with his poor form and the veteran Deep Dasgupta backed him, saying Indian team management needs to back him and give him more games in the ongoing ODI series against England as he believes it will help him to regain his form.
The left-arm spinner is currently struggling with confidence as well as form too and he needs support from the team management which can help him. Dasgupta, while speaking to Sports Today before the second ODI, shared that although Kuldeep Yadav was expensive in the first match, he can only improve if he gets more games at the highest level.
“I would like to see Kuldeep for, at least, another game because, as it is, he has been struggling…he is struggling with confidence. We can see, he hasn’t played much international cricket in the last couple of years. We can see that he is trying hard so all I will say is, maybe, they should back him a bit. I know, he went for a few [runs] as well in the last game,” Dasgupta said.
“He needs backing and game time” – Deep Dasgupta on Kuldeep Yadav
Notably, the Kuldeep Yadav has been out of action for a long time despite getting to travel with the Indian team. While he didn’t even get the chance in the Australia series, he got one opportunity against England in the Test series and he failed to live up to the expectations. Moreover, he has not played in the shortest format of the game since February 2020 too.
“But if you have to give somebody the confidence then the only way that can happen is to make him play, make him bowl. Obviously, get him to bowl the overs against the right batsmen. But if we want Kuldeep back in action and deliver close to his 100 percent of what we’ve seen or better than that, he needs backing and game time,” Dasgupta further added.
Kuldeep Yadav conceded a huge 68 runs in his 9 overs in the first ODI against England where he struggled with his line and length alongside claiming wickets against the hugely experienced England attack. However, Indian pacers didwonders, picking up 9 out of the 10 wickets and bowled England out for 251 after registering a massive total of 317 on the board to seal a 66-run win as well.
Both teams will now take on each other at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Friday, March 26
