Curran’s Hat-Trick Made a Thrilling Win for KXIP by 14 runs

Kings XI Punjab had made a super comeback in death overs and stole cake way victory from Delhi Capitals. Sam Curran’s hat-trick had restricted DC by 14 runs short to the target. This victory has helped the home team to move to the no.2 spot on the point table and maintains the unbeaten streak at Punjab Association IS Bindra Stadium.

The visitors had lost 7 wickets in 16 balls chasing 167 runs. It is one of the records in IPL history for a team to lose 7 wickets in 8 runs only. Mohammed Shami and Sam Curran were the men who made the collapse of Delhi Capitals who were on the way for a sweet victory.

Shami had bagged Rishab Pant (39 runs off 26 balls, 4X3, and 6X2, the highest run-getter for yesterday for the Capitals) in 16.4 over and uprooted the base of Delhi to capitalize the collapse. Curran has bagged Colin Ingram and Harshal Patel, Kashigo Rabada, and Sandeep Lamichhane as his hat-trick.

Delhi’s chasing had started by losing in-form batsman Prithvi shaw on the first delivery of the match by Ashwin. But his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan (30 off 25 balls; 4X4) had used his experience, and the skipper Shreyas Iyer (28 off 22 balls; 4X5) showed his maturity to add 61 runs before Hardus Viljoen made clean bowled to Iyer.

Ashwin was also the man to make depart of Dhawan with a carom ball. Later, Pant had started crushing Punjab bowlers and Ingram (38 off 29 balls; 4X4, and 6X1) to add more 62 runs to the board before Shami sent Pant to the pavilion to make Punjab’s comeback. Punjab’s skipper then surprised the visitors by making run-out of the new man Chris Morris for a duck. Then Curran made the rest of the job to the victory. Ashwin took 2 wickets sparing 31 runs.

Earlier, the Capitals had won the toss and elected to field. Surprisingly, Chris Gayle was rested, and Lokesh Rahul and Sam Curran had opened the innings for KXIP. The misfortune of out-form Rahul (15 off 11 balls; 4X2, and 6X1) continued and he departed early by Morris. Curran joined 20 runs to the board and was dismissed by Lamichhane.

Dhawan made run-out of inform batsman Mayank Agrawal at 6 runs only. But Sarfaraz Khan (39 off 29 balls; 4X6) and Miller (43 off 30 balls; 4×4, and 6X2) fought back and joined 62 runs to the board before Sarfaraz Khan was departed by Lamichhane. Morris took 3 wickets, Rabada took 2 wickets, Lamichhane took 2 wickets to restrict KXIP in 166/9 in 20.0 overs.
