Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has shared the criterias on how to select a team for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has said that merit should be the criteria for selecting teams for the upcoming T20 World Cup and not the age. While speaking to the media persons on the sidelines of the Road Safety World Series, the veteran said: “One thing I would like to clarify here is that it is not just about picking youngsters. It is about picking capable players, you are talking about the Indian cricket team, age should not be criteria.”
“It is about what you are able to deliver and that is what matters, not age. If somebody is able to perform and may not be a young cricketer, but if you are able to perform you should be playing for India,” he further added.
“We should be picking our best 14-15 member squad” – Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar has been playing in the Road Safety World T20 Series where he can be seen in his old stunning form as well.
“Talking about youngsters, if you are able to perform then he rightfully deserves it. But if he is not able to perform, then maybe there are options you can look at. It is just not about age, it is a misconception that you should promote youngsters. I feel we should be picking our best 11. We should be picking our best 14-15 member squad and the best balance is known to the selection committee and it should be left to them,” Sachin Tendulkar again shared.
As far as Virat Kohli-led Team India’s ongoing T20I series against England is concerned, India have bounced back quite well. After having started with a defeat in the first game, they secured a win in the second. However, they failed to win in the third match but equalled the series in the fourth game. And, the final match will take place on March 20 as well which will decide the winner of the series.
