Shardul Thakur, the Indian Speedstar, made headlines on Saturday for training outside during Lockdown 4.0. Though the central government allowed sportsmen to train outside their home, after getting permission from their respective board officials. But Shardul Thakur needlessly participated in training without having BCCI’s green signal. A video in various WhatsApp groups showed that he is involved in bowling. It occurred in the nets at Boisar Cricket ground on Saturday morning to Young Mumbai Batsman Hardik Tamore.
“He is not allowed as he is contracted. Sadly, he went on his own. Should not have done this, not a smart move”, said the BCCI official to IANS. However, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) said that it was not breaching any government guidelines. The nets were in the Green-Zone area. “Once the guidelines from the Palghar District collector(state government) was issued concerning sports, it was always the aim to begin the training process. Due to our fantastic facility in Palghar district, we were able to facilitate a much-needed training program to our esteemed players while adhering to social distancing norms and hygiene”, said Ajinkya Naik, Apex council member of MCA.
What are his teammates up to?
In recent days Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, and vice-captain Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer all are in Mumbai with their families. All the players ensured to stay indoors and not to visit any sports complex or gym even after the relaxation of lockdown.
Presently Shardul is a contracted player of BCCI and is a part of Grade C in the recent contract. He was having his net session at the Palghar Dahanu Taluka District Sports Association Ground. The medium-fast bowler spoke to the media after completing the net session. Thakur said that he did not use saliva for shining the ball as abided by Anil Kumble led the ICC cricket committee.
This is not the first time when Shardul Thakur is in the center of controversy. Initially, he was the second Indian Cricketer who used number 10 jersey after the great Sachin Tendulkar. This raised lots of controversial comments from the sports lover on social media. Later on, he changed his jersey no to 54 to stop the controversy. So far Shardul has played fourteen T20Is matches, eleven ODIs, and one Test match.
