Suresh Raina is going to play a key role for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2021.
Since the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is around the corner, every team have started preparing for the league. And, three times IPL title winner Chennai Super Kings seems ready for the much-awaited battle on the field. MS Dhoni-led side had a dismal show last year in the UAE as they missed a few key players there.
However, their key player Suresh Raina, who had pulled out his name last season due to personal reasons, has returned to the squad. He, alongside MS Dhoni and others, are likely to give a tough fight to others and bring back their best game, feels the former India wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel.
While speaking exclusively on Star Sports’ show CRICKET CONNECTED, Parthiv said, “See, obviously they must be slightly disappointed that they have to get out of Chennai because they have got Moeen Ali in their squad, they have got K Gowtham in their squad. Last year, what went wrong for CSK was, that they were not getting enough runs on the board.”
“I think he holds big key in the CSK lineup” – Parthiv Patel on Suresh Raina
“Then, in the latter half of the tournament, you see emergence of Ruturaj Gaikwad. And now with Suresh Raina coming in the squad. I think he holds big key in the CSK lineup and we have seen what he has done throughout the years of IPL. With him coming back and Rituraj Gaikwad doing well in domestic cricket and plus MS Dhoni, they’re great players and you can’t count them out for too long” he further added.
CSK ended at the seventh position in IPL 2020 and this was the very first time that they failed to qualify for the playoffs of the league. However, the veteran said that they need only a few games to get back their zone.
“He (MS Dhoni) had an indifferent season last year but as we saw how keen he is (spoke to him few times) and he is very determined to get CSK’s ball rolling to start with. These are the teams who have done well and they know that once they win the first game or the second game – they can start believing again. So, it won’t take much of time for CSK to start the tournament in a positive manner,” he expressed.
