The killing of pregnant elephant in Kerala has made the country go furious. Voices are raised from all over the country demanding strict punishment for the criminals behind the incident. Amidst this, the cricket fraternity has spoken up and numerous Indian cricketers including Kohli, Rohit have raised their voice.
A pregnant elephant was allegedly fed a pineapple stuffed with firecrackers after which it burst inside her mouth. Following this incident, the poor animal roamed around the nearby villages for food but was unable to feed due to the injuries in her mouth. She took refuge in a river where she had immersed her trunk and mouth to find some comfort. She died soon enough from her injuries standing in the river. The incident took place in the Malappuram district of Kerala.
The Cricketers Raised Their Voice
Soon after the news of the incident broke, numerous celebrities and cricketers have taken to social media to demand justice for the animal. Virat Kohli took to Twitter and posted a sketch of the elephant and wrote,” Appalled to hear about what happened in Kerala. Let’s treat our animals with love and bring an end to these cowardly acts.” his wife, actress Anushka Sharma also made herself heard. She wrote in her post,” We all would urge @cmokerala to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice for this heinous crime”.
Soon after the tweets and posts from many cricketers and sports persons flooded in. “She was a harmless, pregnant Elephant. That makes the people who did what they did, monsters and I hope so hard that they pay a price. We keep failing nature over and over again. Remind me how we’re the more evolved species?” Sunil Chetri, India’s Football Team Captain posted.
Rohit Sharma posted,” We are savages. Are we not learning? To hear what happened to the elephant in Kerala was heartbreaking. No animal deserves to be treated with cruelty.” Rishabh Pant, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh and Kuldeep Yadav also raised their voices against the killing of pregnant elephant, urging the Chief Minister of Kerala to take strict steps to find the culprits.
