Shubman Gill smashed T Natarajan’s delivery for a maximum.
Shubman Gill has been the key performer for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the last season’s Indian Premier League (IPL). Once again he came to open for KKR and provided a flying start to his side along with Nitish Rana.
Although he managed to score only 15 runs in the innings, he brilliantly supported Rana who was smacking all over the park at the other end and taking on the SRH bowlers as wel, irrespective of who the bowler was too.
Meanwhile, Nitish Rana started with a boundary off Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the very first ball of the innings and that set the tone for a flying start by the openers. However, in the very first match, both Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana added a 53-run partnership which could have been much more had Rashid Khan not dismissed Gill.
However, in the fifth over of the innings bowled by SunRisers Hyderabad’s yorker specialist T Natarajan. And Shubman Gill did not spare him as he went after the speedster off the very first ball. He picked the ball on a length and smashed it for a big six over long-on. It was well executed and a classy six that received the applaud from the commentators as well. And, the ball had to sanitize owing to the COVID-19 rules for sixes hit into the stands as well.
However, the six was the highlight of Shubman Gill and his stay in the middle which showed a lot of capability but eventually, ended when a slower googly from Rashid Khan hit the stumps of the opener as he had misread the delivery.
However, KKR managed to put up a decent competitive total of 187 on the board. This came on the back of Nitish Rana’s blistering 80, Rahul Tripathi’s blitzy fifty and a quickfire 22* off 9 from Dinesh Karthik.
